Sorry to post so soon after you Mo' but

This is excellence. This guy put into words exactly what is wrong with galitsky's teaching methods. Hands on, great. 31 year old guy acting like he is 18...inappropriate/creepy. There are some things that in today's day and age you just can't do, even if you think that it is overly conservative or arcane or whatever, you still can't do them. Anyways, read, enjoy

Also, this is the more official report. Let's see you email this one to all your friends showing off how awesome you think you are.

so, normally i agree with you about galitsky, but this one i was actually kinda on his side. my mom was actually the one who emailed me the original article, i never got one from galitsky. but i thought it was kind of dumb that he got in trouble for it. i mean, it wasn't like it was an official recommendation for reading. i think book censorship is stupid in general but especially in this case where it wasn't even remotely required. and lea, weren't you the "former student" who recommended it? if you were, congrats :) you're pretty much famous. lol but anyway. the yearbook comment was probably a bad decision but anyone who knows galitsky knows it wasn't in seriousness. if anything made me mad about the article it was the dumb ass parent who had to get all huffy and intervene. i doubt their child was truly suffering enough to warrant getting into all that business.

but anyway, that's just my two cents.

No, I agree that the actual things that are going on may not have been so bad, but Galitsky just does far too many things that cause pause in the educational system, and even though this one isn't one that I think is a super big deal, I think it was about time that he get called out on his behavior. And yes, I think book censorship by the government is bull, but a school system has to decide what is appropriate for a teacher to directly give to their students. The school is accountable for every word that comes out of his mouth, and if a parent doesn't like it, the school can take it pretty hard. Plus, I'm pretty sure Heroine Diaries was on his website, which, although the school didn't give it the OK, it is totally something that he was willing to recommend in paper, and without qualifiers. I don't think it was necessarily a bad decision on his part to tell kids about the book and that it correlates well with the course, as long as he tells about the downfalls. But as a teacher, he makes decisions that are inappropriate and unprofessional all the time.

Haha, I like anyone who fucks with the HHS system; although I wouldn't go so far as to try to lose my job so blatantly. I don't think the yearbook signing was perverse although I love that they got Vitalo (aka biggest perve EVER) to comment on the event bahahaha! Does anyone know Dr. Cofer's address or e-mail? I want to send him a thank you and let him know I loved Dr. Zhivago.
